Book ReviewS:
"A Thin Book of Fat Poems by Liliana Kohann is a wonderful book of poetry and journal entries that will take you on a journey of self-discovery. The poems will make you laugh out loud or touch your heart, but there is always a clear, strong message behind each one. Through the brilliantly crafted poems, you will explore what the deep-rooted thought patterns are concerning addiction and low self-esteem. You will also be motivated to make positive changes in your life and uncover your potential. The poetry is thought-provoking and compelling. It will trigger you to have the confidence to change your negative self-image to a positive one by accepting yourself for who you are, and having the confidence to take the first step. Each poem is designed to question your own inner thoughts and drive you to a more fulfilling life.
From the first poem, Three Desserts, this book of poetry grabbed my attention. Every poem made you consider why you are prolonging taking action to reach personal goals. The journal entries were a personal insight from the author, but ones I could relate to, especially Today I Allowed Myself To Cry, which was extremely sad. The Mirror looked at the destructive problem of negative self-image. There were also poems such as You Can, which inspires change by reminding us that we all have a choice in life, whether to fight for your goals or concede. My favourite poem, however, was Most Stubborn Thing, which cleverly describes the arguments you have with your excess weight: ‘No matter what I say or do it sits right here, fearing nobody. ’ I think every woman has done that at some point in their lives. A perfect gift for any woman who wants to make powerful changes in her life and be entertained in the process."

A Thin Book of Fat Poems may be best described as a series of metaphors for all the ways we dissuade ourselves from those self-evident truths we do so well to rationalize away. The freshness of Liliana’s reflection offers the reader a moment to ponder the universality of avoidance, denial and self-justification. The poems themselves offer the reader the opportunity to join a march towards a more healthy dialogue with ourselves and in the process, gain freedom from the tyranny of habits and detours. The honesty that Liliana brings to her work is experienced in feeling as much as understood, and is a breath of fresh air for the reader. There is no proselytizing, nor is there any hint of superiority, only the sharing of a personal journey that we can all identify with. The artwork is also worth note and stands solidly in its own right, yet provides a visual to our emotional experience of the poetry. All in all, a delight."

Her simple yet profound poems feel like a friend's whisper
In a world where it seems peace cannot be found, Liliana reaches into the depths of our adulthood, into our responsibilities and fears, she dances over our insecurities, ineffectiveness, self doubt and guilt and makes us smile in solidarity at a realization, a simple truth, a childlike thought so long forgotten and tucked away when we wrapped ourselves in the cloak of adult life. Her simple yet profound poems feel like a friend's whisper, reminding us to honor and embrace our unique souls."
I love how real these poems are
I love how real these poems are. They speak to the inner voice that we all have...the self criticism and self reflection. Although some very deep, emotional things are written about, I love that there is humor too. The illustrations are an extra special addition! A great book to own and also a perfect and unique gift for a friends and family.
Wise yet whimsical! A great gift idea.
A delightful dose of wisdom regarding all of the emotions we might feel in life! I particularly loved the illustrations, as they add a lighthearted touch to the depth found in the poems. I purchased several copies as gifts for friends and grabbed one for myself too, and I couldn't be more impressed.
Funny and witty poems
Truly delightful, funny and witty poems, most with a surprising twist at the end that can deliver a punch of unexpected depth and meaning. The author has delivered, with great creativity and humor, very personal and inspiring messages to which most everyone can relate. And her uniquely comical drawings bring nothing but joy! You must get this book!

OPRAH WINFREY
In 2004 Oprah Winfrey put her hands on my shoulders and said: “You send these poems to me, and you send them fast.” I never did. I was too frightened and too uncomfortable to be visible. It took me years of work to finally come to the point of comfort in sharing not only my vulnerabilities—but what’s harder for me—sharing my strength and my gifts. Twelve years later, I finally gathered from the pages of my journal the poems that transformed my life and put them into this special book.
Many poems in this book relate to the inner journey of LILA [pronounced: Leela], which is, I am sure a part of me, but also a part of ALL of us. LILA is a character that showed up in my imagination. She does not look like me or like anybody I know, and yet in some way many of us can probably relate to her.
I've learned later that the word LILA means the outcome of creative play by the Divine absolute. I had chills when I learned this. When I was a child my family and friends also called me Lila, as it is a short version of my first name. Many good things have happened since her appearance in my mind, including the permission to truly FEEL and express ALL my emotions and thus learning the incredible gift of emotions in our own healing; encouragement to find my voice and to accept myself the way I am; and the gift of HUMOR in my journey toward physical, emotional and spiritual mastership.
