HOME > About Liliana
Liliana Kohann grew up in the historic city of Gdansk, Poland, where her creative spirit was shaped amidst the challenges of life under a communist regime. Even as a young girl, she found solace and purpose in her writing, crafting poems, songs, and stories that became both a refuge and a bridge to her inner self. Writing was her way of coping with life’s difficulties and connecting with others, as she often penned poems to help those around her navigate their own struggles.
By the age of 19, Liliana had filled journals with over 500 poems and stories, many of which were recognized for their expressive depth. After winning many poetry competitions and a national songwriting competition, her work was deemed "too expressive" by the authorities, ultimately leading her to the United States. Here, as a single mother of three, she resumed her journey of self-discovery, channeling her experiences into poetry that is as playful as it is profound.
Today, Liliana’s work invites us to explore self-discovery, healing, and self-acceptance through an engaging blend of wisdom and humor. Her poetry has been described as “Dr. Seuss for Adults,” simple yet psychologically sophisticated, with a profound impact that resonates deeply with her audience. She is celebrated for her unique ability to reach the hearts of readers, offering comfort, laughter, and insights that inspire personal growth.
As some of her readers say, Liliana’s poems feel like a friend’s whisper, gently guiding us toward a kinder relationship with ourselves. Her work has been compared to that of Rumi, and Shell Silverstein, blending childlike wonder with the wisdom of lived experience.

A little more about me
I began writing poetry at the age of six. When someone around me was sad or hurt, I felt their emotions intensely and I would write compassionate or funny poems to lift their spirits. My little poems with whimsical drawings would circle in our classroom. I loved seeing my friends smile, knowing I had lightened their burden, even if only a little. As I grew older and encountered my own challenges, my desire to ease suffering shaped my poetry into a powerful yet enjoyable tool for healing and self-mastery. These poems became my guides on a journey toward better health, greater success, and a happier life.
I admit I am more comfortable sharing through my art than through talking about myself. My books, my poetry, my art is how you will truly get to know me. So here, I’ll just share a couple of thoughts that come to mind.
Originally from Poland, I have resided in America since 1984. I do record and enjoy recording my own songs, yet I never really wanted to be a famous singer or a famous performer. This was never my dream. My dream and my work was always about improvement, about making things better.
So in a few words, I write, I teach, I create - to make things better.
In my 23 years of stay-at-home motherhood, I worked from home and created and ran my own businesses, yet somehow at nights, often when I couldn’t sleep, I was given the inspiration to write and create books and all the products that you can see on my personal site, where you can also read more about me:

What People say
“Liliana’s style of writing (and drawing) is simple, direct and has a wonderful childlike quality, and yet the WISDOM contained within these poems is PROFOUND and psychologically sophisticated. I especially recall a day when Liliana was reciting one of her poems and the thought that kept running through my mind was that this was Dr. SEUSS for ADULTS!
Lilting, fun, the mental pictures easily and quickly evoked by her poems seem to allow adults to listen with their 'guards down,' and the poems' messages therefore hit a deeper place in the listener's psyche."
