POEMS ABOUT ENVY > Envy
ENVY
If you envy my success now, when I’m sixty-five,
Envy also my failures, back when I was thirty.
If you envy my house and my rooms so clean,
Envy my mess back then and hands wounded, dirty--
From building that house, from moving the dirt,
From cleaning the mud thrown under my feet…
Envy my victories? Then envy my defeats.
And if you envy me now because I am strong,
Because I seem wise and know the right road to take,
Envy also the times I was helpless and weak.
Envy my few wins? Then envy my countless mistakes.
Here’s what I’ve learned in those thirty-five years:
If you envy something from somebody, envy it ALL!
But better, dirty your hands building your own dream.
All that envy does is bring dirt to YOUR soul!
