I HAVE AN ENEMY
I have an Enemy. Whenever I decide to walk outside, my Enemy says, “Why bother, stay inside.” Whenever I desire to light my fire, my Enemy says, “Oh, wait now, you’re too tired.” Whenever I’ve concluded, that I must become rooted, my Enemy says, ”Keep floating, you have been excluded.” Whenever I would vow, “I won’t eat sweets,” somehow my Enemy reminds me, “But it’s your birthday now.” Whenever I would say, “I’m starting my new way,” my Enemy would whisper, “Tomorrow, not today.” So with style and a rhyme, I failed most of the time. And the good American pie we waste, my Enemy and I. Till one day Death knocked at my door... My Enemy said with a smile, “Get up and go. Bye, bye. It is your time to leave; It is your time to die.” Obediently, like a little kid I listened, as I always did. And with my head down, I started to proceed. But right before I turned the knob on the door, I stood up really tall and said to my Enemy, “NO! You go!” Then to my surprise my Enemy did arise and said, “Yes, master.” And then... slowly walked OUTside. In shock I never knew, I stood for a minute or two. Well, bye, bye my Enemy. Now, I’ve got things TO DO! LILIANA KOHANN ©2000 Artpeace Publishing |
