PRINCE OF JOY
Verse 1
A long time ago far away
there was a very rich kingdom.
Yet, people were always so sad.
A king very serious and mean.
He believed that‘s what made him strong.
No one laughed except one small boy.
Ref. Ah… his little Prince of Joy.
Verse 2
One day the king was upset,
‘cause the Prince was laughing too long.
So he said, “My son, you must change.
You’re not like us, and that is wrong!”
The Prince felt hurt but agreed, “So sad I’ll be”
‘cause he loved his dear king.
Ref. Ah… he loved his dear king.
Verse 3
Seventeen days had gone by.
The Prince, as he promised, was sad.
But suddenly he saw a little bird,
so he laughed, and the king got mad.
“Go away! Don’t come back ‘til you bring me proof
that others do laugh like you.”
Ref. Go little Prince go. There is a world
full of girls and boys
like you, the Prince of Joy.
Verse 4
Soon after, the Prince met a girl.
She was poor but happy. They became friends.
They sang songs and danced with butterflies,
as they went to the king holding hands.
The king just stared at them. He was so surprised.
And for the first time in his life, he smiled.
Ref. Ah...my little Prince of Joy.
Ref. Go little Prince go. My kingdom is yours.
Teach all girls and boys
how to find strength in joy.
